Carpentry: common questions
What is the difference between first fix and second fix carpentry?
First fix is the work done before the walls and ceilings are boarded: studwork, framing and door linings. Second fix comes after plastering: hanging doors and fitting frames, skirting, architrave, panelling and finishing joinery.
Do you do external carpentry and cladding?
Yes. We build timber cladding, gates and external timberwork. On the carport conversion in Hatton we built a new front elevation in oak cladding, with a door and windows to match the main house.
Can carpentry be part of a bigger project?
Yes, and that is where it works best. Because we also handle the drylining, ceilings and partitions, the framing, boarding and finishing joinery are planned together and finished by one team.
